N2 - Wind/hydrogen/diesel cogeneration systems can be quite attractive for the energy supplies of remote communities in terms of economic and environmental factors. For such a weak grid, a power electronics-based dump load controller is usually deployed for frequency regulation to balance the generation and demand. This paper presents a two-leg IGBT-based load controller, which can be operated in low power, medium power, and high power operation modes. A bumpless transfer technique is proposed to smoothly switch between neighboring operation modes. Analysis, simulation, and prototyping test results are presented.
