Abstract

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has developed a tool, OR-SAGE (Oak Ridge Siting Analysis for power Generation Expansion) to support siting evaluations. The objective in developing OR-SAGE was to employ industry-accepted approaches for screening and/or develop appropriate criteria for screening sites and then to employ the array of geographic information systems (GIS) data sources at ORNL to identify candidate areas for a particular application. This paper will describe the development of OR-SAGE, provide selected examples of results for nuclear power plant siting, and discuss early efforts in developing screening criteria for waste disposal facilities.
