Abstract

The Biota-MS, a special issue of Iheringia, Série Botânica, consists of 40 articles on the biodiversity of Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. It was written by 112 researchers from 39 Brazilian and international institutions. A total of 3,911 species were recorded, including endangered species and endemics to Mato Grosso do Sul or those only cited for MS. Despite obstacles in the preparation of this edition, such as the lack of specialists in different taxa and the difficulty in quantifying species diversity of Mato Grosso do Sul from material collected before 1977, when Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states had not been split, the results obtained are one of the most updated and systematized work of organizing biological data in Brazil.
