Abstract

The Gordon Bell Prize recognizes achievements in the application of supercomputers to scientific and engineering problems. In 1995, finalists were named for work in two categories: performance, which recognizes those who solved a real problem in less elapsed time than anyone else; and price/performance, which recognizes developers of cost-effective supercomputing. One entry was received in the third category of compiler-generated speedup, which measures how well compiler writers are doing at easing the programming of parallel processors. A group that worked on special-purpose machines was also recognized. The results are presented.
