Abstract

This paper investigates a compact 700V/1000A class unipolar magnet power supply (UMPS) with an interleaved buck converter (IBC). A design process, operation principle and analysis results of the UMPS with IBC are described. The main drawback of a general converter is the big inductor capacity to ensure a low output current ripple. The IBC has main characteristics such as a low ripple output, high efficiency and small volume. Each designed buck converter has maximum 250A output and the fabricated IBC has maximum four modules in parallel controlled phase shift switching method. Important feature for the fabricated UMPS with IBC is a maximum 1000 A output current and below \pm \mathbf{10} ppm ripple rate during long hours such as 24 hours continuously. Simulation and experimental results validate the theoretical analysis and show feasibility of the UMPS with IBC topology.
