Visualization and Analysis in Support of Fusion Science

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

The aim of the SciDAC Fusion Energy initiative is to create an integrated model of magnetically confined fusion systems using computer simulations. These simulations are mathematically complex and involve many variables with different spatial and temporal resolutions. In order to fully validate and verify, as well as explore and understand these simulations, fusion scientists need tools that will allow them to visualize and analyze the vast amounts of data generated. In this proposal we address some of those needs by proposing to deploy visualization and analysis tools that address some of the common needs of the fusion SciDACs. More specifically we focus on needs for comparative visualization and analysis and for topological analysis. The tools will be delivered as added value to existing software infrastructure, such as to VisIt for visualization and analysis, incorporated directly into one of the simulation codes, or both.
