Scientific Data Management Technologies to Accelerate Fusion Scientific Discover

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

In this Strategic Application Partnership (SAP) we are addressing data management problems in support of proposals in Plasma Turbulence and Transport as well as Computational Physics of Energetic Particles in Plasmas. Specifically, the common scientific data management themes that were identified and are addressed in this proposal are: (1) Orchestrating data movement with workflow tools and Support for metadata and provenance, (2) Parallel statistical tools, and 3) Automating Data Sharing in Fusion applications. This proposal is in support of three fusion proposals, in the areas of micro turbulence transport and energetic particles. Specifically, we initially plan to work with the following two projects: Gyrokinetic Particle Simulation of Turbulent Transport in Burning Plasmas (GPS-TTBP), PI: Pat Diamond, and Center for the Study of Plasma Microturbulence (CSPM), PI: Bill Nevins. Over time, we plan to apply some of the technologies that are successfully being used in these projects to a third project, Gyrokinetic Simulation of Energetic Particle Turbulence and Transport (GSEP), PI: Zhihong Lin.
