Performance Engineering Research Institute

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This proposal describes a Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) Institute in the area of high-end, computerperformance engineering, the Performance Engineering Research Institute. The Institute is developing technologies to enableincreasingly complex scientific application codes to run productively on increasingly complex, high-end computing systems. TheInstitute encompasses three interrelated activities:(1) Performance modeling and prediction, to inform and to improveperformance optimization efforts and to ensure that system procurements suit application workloads(2) Automated performanceoptimization, to ensure that applications use high-end systems efficiently(3) Performance engineering of high-profileapplications, to ensure that important performance goals are achieved in the near termThe Institute is a collaboration amongresearchers at Argonne National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Oak RidgeNational Laboratory, Rice University, University of Maryland, University of North Carolina, University of Southern California,University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center.
