    Project Details

    Description

The Gas Technology Institute (GTI) is submitting a response to a Financial Opportunity Announcement issued by the U.S. Department ofEnergy. This opportunity addresses "Enabling Turbine Technologies for High-Hydrogen Fuels" and the GTI response is addressingSub-Topic Area 3C on "MW-Scale Turbines for Power and Hydrogen Co-Production in Industrial Applications". This announcement callsfor projects to be conducted in three phases. Phase I will involve development of a conceptual design and an R&Dimplementation plan that would serve as the basis for work that would be conducted in the latter two phases. Oak Ridge NationalLaboratory (ORNL) will contribute to the submission for Phase I work and will propose providing technical support on the selectionof materials. The ORNL role would include collection of existing data related to the performance of materials in the anticipatedenvironments followed by evaluation of this data and the results of on-going projects at ORNL and other laboratories. Based on theanalysis of this existing data and the extensive experience of ORNL staff members, candidate materials would be identified and, ifneeded, a testing program would be proposed to generate the information required to select the most appropriate materials for thespecific turbine applications.
